Schooling in Salalah
Private schools in Salalah are licensed by the Ministry of Education and supervised locally by the Directorate General of Education in Dhofar. In April 2025 the governorate counted 227 schools, 61 of them private, and in 2024–25 Dhofar had five international community schools with 5,848 students, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
British and Cambridge schools lead the international side. British School Salalah, in the Dahariz area, is a not-for-profit school for ages 3 to 18 offering IGCSEs and A Levels. Salalah International School, also in Dahariz, has taught the Cambridge curriculum since 2012, up to AS and A Level, and is a member of the Council of International Schools. Indian School Salalah teaches the Indian CBSE curriculum up to Class XII.
Dhofar's calendar has its own rhythm. The khareef monsoon season brings visitors every summer, and in 2026 the Ministry of Education moved the start of the government school year back a week, to 6 September, to support tourism. Private schools set their own term dates, so it is worth checking your school's calendar when planning revision.
