Schooling in Hawally
Hawally gives its name to Hawalli Governorate, where many of Kuwait's international schools and expatriate families are based. Private schools here are licensed by the Ministry of Education's Private Education Department, and international schools teach Arabic and Islamic studies alongside their main curriculum.
Hawally itself is a dense, mostly residential district of 12 blocks with around 30 schools serving Kuwaiti, Arab, Indian and Pakistani families. The American School of Kuwait, on its Hawally campus since 1994, offers the AP Capstone Diploma. Other schools include the Universal American School, Al-Bayan Bilingual School and Kuwait National English School. Nearby Salwa is home to the British School of Kuwait, which runs the English National Curriculum through to A-Levels.
Hawally is also where many students sit the SAT. For the December 2026 test, College Board listed three test centres in Hawally itself, out of seven in the whole country.
